CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — City Council has given final approval to begin the funding process for a proposed desalination plant.
Their action today clears the way for the city to apply for an $11.4 million, low interest loan from the Texas Water Development Board.
A first reading was approved last week.
The loan would cover some of the costs for designing the plant, including permits and environmental surveys.
The city stresses the loan will not lead to higher water utility rates.
Corpus Christi has been approved for up to $222 million through the Texas Water Development Board.
