CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — "Any day is a good day for shoe shopping," says Amy Hyde, Chair of the Corpus Christi Association of Realtors Walk with Pride Task Force.

The Realtors Association is helping students start the school year off right by giving away at least 600 pairs of shoes to students in need.

Long lines formed outside the Corpus Christi Shoe Carnival store, where the event was hosted for the first time.

"This is the first year we've partnered with Shoe Carnival, but the Corpus Christi Association of Realtors has been giving away shoes since 1983," says Hyde.

The event is funded by donations gathered through partnerships with local businesses and a fashion show hosted in the summer.

"It keeps just getting stronger and stronger," Hyde says. "A new pair of shoes…there's just nothing else like it. I think we all know that. It gives you a fresh feeling and a confident feeling."

Children are chosen to participate in the event through social service agencies in town.

Last week, the Corpus Christi Association of Realtors and the Alice Realtor community gave away 300 pairs of shoes to kids in Jim Wells County.
