Former Animal Care Services head Gillis dies

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department announced Tuesday on its Blotter that former Animal Care Services and Vector Control Director, Mike Gillis, died.

Gillis served in that role since May 7, 2018 until a few weeks ago when Joe Skidmore, Program Manager, assumed those responsibilities. According to the CCPD Blotter, prior to working with the City of Corpus Christi Gillis had worked with Austin Animal Center, L-3 Communications, and Aethercomm. He was a Veteran of the Armed Forces and served with the United State Marine Corps from 1978 to 1998, retiring as a Warrant Officer.

His cause of death was not noted. Mike Gillis was 61 years old.
