ARANSAS PASS, Texas — Fire crews were on the scene trying to make sure Tuesday’s fire did not reignite, unfortunately that happened when a flare-up was reported around noon that same day.

The flare-up happened on Smith Road off FM 1069 in Aransas Pass. Crews were able to put out the fire quickly.

The Texas A&M Forest Division's Heather Gonzales said a cause for the fire hasn't been ascertained, but it is believed extreme heat could be to blame.

"My first thought was oh God please don't let this happen," said Linda Hernandez, a neighbor who was evacuated, told us the frustration she felt when she was told to leave the area.

Hernandez told KRIS 6 News she was worried about what the fire could do to her home

“It was real scary, heart-wrenching, I thought it might be bad for us and all the people that live around here," she said.

The Rockport Volunteer Fire Department said two homes and two buildings were destroyed Tuesday, along with one of its fire engines.

Five firefighters were treated for minor injuries at nearby medical facilities.

According to fire officials, four homes were directly threatened by the fire on Wednesday, but were saved.

Crews from out of state, including Tennessee and North Carolina, are helping local crews maintain the area, including what is known as a 'two-dozer strike team,' a team of two bulldozers and other heavy equipment used for containment.
