CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A large brush fire broke out near a Southside athletic park this morning.

And it was finally controlled just a few hours ago.

It started around 11:30 a.m. Monday in a large grassy area between two subdivisions near Bill Witt Park.

The Corpus Christi Fire Department says 30 to 40 acres of brush were scorched, but there were no injuries.

The Annaville Fire Department and Nueces County Emergency Services District #2 helped fight the fire.

Firefighters say extremely dry conditions and some wind were factors in getting the flames under control.

According to a Facebook post from Nueces County ESD No. 2, no homes are currently in danger.
