CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Corpus Christi firefighters were called out to a building fire over at a Bishop Garriga Middle School building.

The fire broke out just after 7 p.m. Sunday inside of a portable building.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting through the roof of the building. The fire was put out quickly once firefighters arrived.

Battalion Chief Tom Schmidt, with the Corpus Christi Fire Department, said the building sustained severe damage but could be salvaged.

Chief Schmidt says the fire is going to affect the start of the new school year. Schmidt said they don't believe foul play was involved and suspect the cause of the fire could be electrical.
