Update (9:14 p.m.):
According to a statement from The Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred at about 2:07 p.m.
DPS officials stated that a Lincoln vehicle with five people collided with a semi-trailer. The driver of the Lincoln died of their injuries at the scene and has not yet been identified.
The statement said two of the passengers were air-lifted and the other two were transported to local hospitals via EMS.
The truck driver did not have any injuries from the crash, the statement said.
The crash, officials said, remains under investigation.
Duval County Sheriff Romeo Ramirez has confirmed that a fatal crash has taken place north of Freer.
The accident happened at Hwy. 16 and Farm-to-Market Road 3395.
He did not say how many people were killed in the accident, or how many vehicles were involved.
