CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Friday night shooting in Corpus Christi’s south side left one teenager dead, and with many questions left unanswered, the victim’s family and friends are doing what they can to weather the storm.

On Saturday night, family and friends of 17- year old Michael Quintero gathered at Westhaven Park in his honor, releasing balloons and candles. And although the park is now mostly empty, aside from a few candles next to a basketball hoop, there’s already several ways the community can help the family during this tragic time.

One example is a benefit being held by friends this coming Sunday at the Nest, a restaurant and bar that's less than five minutes away from where the shooting happened. The fundraiser will feature food plates starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and that will go on until they are completely sold out. The money from this event will go directly to Quintero's funeral expenses.

Family members of the victim said they also plan to have a benefit of their own this coming weekend. Details on these plans will be announced soon.
