CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — A seemingly typical traffic stop turned into a car chase with the suspect getting caught in the Laguna Madre.
Just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, DPS troopers attempted to make a traffic stop on Flour Bluff Drive near S.P.I.D.
Troopers say the driver of a truck, 28-year-old Donovan Miller, failed to yield and pulled into a parking lot nearby. When officers attempted to make contact, the driver sped off.
While continuing to drive, the driver turned off his lights as he maneuvered through the neighborhood off of Waldron Road. Officers were able to see him again when he drove back up the JFK Causeway headed towards the Island and that's when they began shooting out his tires.
Just past Red Dot Pier, the suspect stopped the car, jumped over the bridge and went into the waterway.
Troopers jumped into the water as well and were able to apprehend him without incident.
Troopers say the suspect told them he was on probation and just didn't want to go back to jail.
Miller faces one charge of evading arrest which is a felony.
