CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — DPS troopers say they spotted a vehicle traveling almost 100 mph on the freeway.

Troopers spotted the vehicle traveling 97 mph down the eastbound lanes of South Padre Island Drive.

When DPS Trooper Marco Everett tried to pull over the vehicle, he said the driver of the vehicle accelerated, reaching speeds more than 100 mph an hour.

"He went down multiple streets, went through the mall area," Everett said, "This vehicle didn't want to stop.'

The driver, identified as a male in his early 20s, ended up going the wrong way on Laredo Street.

That's when Everett initiated a pit maneuver, disabling the vehicle.

"We were afraid he was going to cause a traffic crash, " Everett said.

The pursuit lasted more than 15 minutes.

Officers had to break the driver's side window to get him out of the vehicle.

Investigators are still determining what charges the man will face.

One charge he will face is evading.
