CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — If you are looking for something fun to do for the entire family this weekend, you don't have to leave town. There's a fun and educational event you don’t won't want to miss at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.

The museum was shut down at the start of the pandemic and partially reopened earlier this summer. This event marks the first time all of their exhibits will be fully accessible for people to enjoy.

Staff and volunteers with the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History have been preparing for a big labor day weekend setting up its interactive exhibit called, "museum live!"

“We’ve extended our programming to make it a really wonderful and welcoming place to be. So we have added our museum live characters. Our museum live! is our actors, that actually bring history to life,” said President/CEO Carol Rhetmeyer.

Actors will portray historical characters and tell their stories, and encourage guests to join in to have fun while learning the history and culture of the Coastal Bend.

“One is north beach way back in the day, we have another exhibit that we have delivered ourselves and it is predators and prey, and the third exhibit is a traveling exhibit and it is about the civil war with highlighting individuals of color who were participants,” said Rhetmeyer.

To ensure Covid-19 preventative measures, museum staff will be checking temperatures at the door, masks are required and they will be wiping down common areas every hour.

“And we have on the hour cleaning of every single area and someone stationed full time in the science station since we have a lot of touchables in that area,” said Rhetmeyer.

Since their partial reopening in June, the museum has added new exhibits and shows for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

“Then we have the children science center, we’ve got history areas and all kinds of fun and interactive,” said Rhetmeyer.

The event is happening Saturday, September 5 through Labor Day. Doors will open at 10:00 am on Saturday and Labor Day until 5:00 pm. Sunday, doors open at noon and close at 5:00 pm. Tickets are $12 for adults, nine for children, seniors, and military, and tickets are free for kids 2 and under.
