CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Ruben and Ava Reyna were presented with the keys to a new home Thursday courtesy of Catholic Charities and 14 other agencies.
It's on Sharpsburg Road about a block or so from their old house that was damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Harvey.
The new, 3-bedroom 2-bath home is about a thousand square feet and constructed to weather future storms.
Donna Rosson, who is the Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group Vice President, said, "It was built to withstand winds of about 140-mph. Although we told them that if the call to evacuate, they need to evacuate anyway, their home will still be standing when they come back."
It took about a year to get the new house built. But Mr. Reyna says it was well worth the wait.
He and Ava will celebrate Christmas there and move in shortly after that.
