Coast Guard rescues 10 mariners participating in the Harvest Moon Regatta

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Coast Guard rescued 10 mariners from sailing vessels participating in the Harvest Moon Regatta near Port Aransas, Texas, Friday evening.

A Station Port O' Connor Response Boat-Medium boat crew was launched to assist the disabled sailing vessel Gypsy Soul that had reported it was taking on water and had an injured mariner onboard approximately 14 miles offshore Port O' Connor, Texas.

Four mariners were safely transferred to awaiting emergency medical services personnel onshore. A safety marine information broadcast has been issued for the adrift vessel and navigation lights are illuminated.

A Corpus Christi Air Station MH-65 aircrew was launched to assist the disabled sailing vessel Myassis Dragon II that experienced a loss of steering approximately four miles offshore Port Aransas. Six mariners were successfully hoisted and transferred ashore to awaiting emergency medical services personnel.

A safety marine information broadcast has been issued for the adrift vessel.

"The mariners were well prepared for their distress situation and we were glad to be in a position to assist", said Lt. Chris Zink, MH-65 aircraft commander. "We train for these missions regularly, and our crew successfully executed an efficient rescue which resulted in the safe recovery of all survivors."

The weather on-scene was reported as being approximately 4-12 foot swells with 23-46 mph winds.
