CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A local dealership presented a hefty check to the Corpus Christi Police Foundation on Friday.

James Masten, president of Beck & Masten Buick GMC of the Coastal Bend, presented the foundation with the check in the amount of $20,000. The dealership is this year's "Back the Blue" Sporting Clay Shoot title sponsor.

"They're raising it for the benefit of the police officers to make as they mentioned to make Corpus a safer place," he said.

The fundraiser is being held April 25, but the foundation is still seeking sponsors, donations and participants.

The proceeds from the event will be used to help the Corpus Christi Police Department buy much needed crime-fighting tools. The police chief said it will help them get equipment and provide advanced training for officers which can't be covered by the force's regular budget.

"You know it helps us professionalize our police department and become better and better," said CCPD Chief Mike Markle. "That's our objective."

The fundraiser is on a Saturday on the Berry's private ranch in Mathis. For more information, go to the 2020 Back the Blue Sporting Clay Shoot website.
