CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police have brought a man into custody after he had barricaded himself Sunday afternoon inside a vehicle near the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 13613 Northwest Boulevard in the Five Points area of Calallen.
The incident concluded about 5 p.m. There were no injuries.
CCPD confirmed an individual fired several rounds earlier in the afternoon. They then contained the scene and attempted to calm the suspect down.
Police originally answered a call about 2:55 p.m. for a suicide threat.
They then noticed that man, presumed to be armed, was involved. They then called in the SWAT team, utilizing rubber bullets to help bring him into custody.
Several witnesses said they had distinct remembrances of the incident.
“I got a call about a shooting,” Brandon Cabrerra said. “Everybody was calling to see if I was OK. I am. A couple of my employees were barricaded within the store.”
Witness Clover Venegas also had some searing memories.
“Naturally, all of us came outside to start recording,” Venegas said. “And for a long time he just walked around.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety, CCPD and CCPD SWAT teams were all the scene.
Police have not released the identity of the man who was arrested.
Exit 14A of Interstate 37 for the Northwest Boulevard/Leopard Street was closed because of the situation for about two hours because of the incident.
Officers are working a call on the 13000 block of Northwest Blvd with a subject who is considered armed and dangerous. Please avoid the area entirely.

There are no reports of injuries or whether anyone has been hit by a stray shot. Shots were fired at just after 3:15 p.m., according to CCPD.
The standoff occurred near the Walmart Super Store where Gabe Cooley, a member of the Calallen football team, was fatally stabbed two weeks ago.
