Despite the cold weather, folks stood in line this morning to pick up Christmas meals and toys.
Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi gave turkeys and fixings to those in need this Christmas while U.S. Marines handed out Toys for Tots.
Bishop Michael Mulvey kicked off the 53rd annual event with a blessing.
This year, Catholic Charities gave out 3,000 baskets and staff say everyone who stopped by shared their gratitude.
"We're just glad and thankful that someone is thinking about the people here," said food box recipiet Gilbert Barrera.
Everyone who picked up toys and food today preregistered a few weeks ago.
"Oh it's a wonderful blessing, and there's a lot of people out there that have the need, and, uh, it's just awesome." said recipient Naomi Zuniga.
Catholic Charities will continue distributing food baskets and toys across 12 counties served by the diocese.
