CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Over the weekend, Border Patrol Agents interdicted multiple narcotic smuggling attempts.
Saturday morning, Rio Grande City agents working in La Grulla, Texas, observed multiple individuals walking toward U.S. Highway 83 carrying bundles of suspected narcotics. When encountered by agents, the subjects abandoned the bundles and absconded into the brush. The agents seized six bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 348 pounds with an estimated street value of over $278K.
Monday morning, Rio Grande City agents working in El Refugio, Texas, observed a Nissan Murano drive towards the Rio Grande. Shortly after, the vehicle abruptly stopped, and multiple subjects jumped out from the brush and loaded several bundles into the vehicle. The vehicle then departed the area and drove towards the expressway but immediately turned around upon noticing agents responding to the area. The driver of the vehicle unloaded one bundle and abandoned the vehicle as he fled to Mexico. Agents recovered four bundles of marijuana left inside the vehicle weighing approximately 243 pounds with an estimated street value of over $194K.
Additionally, agents working at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint seized over $136K of marijuana and over $76K of methamphetamine, and agents working at the Javier Vega Jr. Border Patrol Checkpoint seized over $2.7M of methamphetamine.
The narcotics seized by Border Patrol were turned over to investigating agencies, and all subjects were processed accordingly.
