CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two children and four adults were rescued from a sinking vessel and are in route back to shore.

The Nueces County ESD NO. 2 reports they responded to the call of an overturned boat with reports of two children and four adults in cold, choppy water about 8:40 a.m. The U.S. Coast Guard and Corpus Christi Fire Department also responded to the call.

When crews arrived, they found the passengers on top of the boat.

"The Coast Guard was able to update the location and give us better coordinates for the location," Corpus Christi Fire Department Capt. Justin Schroeder said. "We were then able to the get the subjects out of the water."

It is unclear what caused the passengers to leave the boat before their rescue to safety.

Witnesses said that Rescue Boat 91 could be seen going through rough waters as they repond to the overturned boat.

This is a breaking situation. We'll have more information as we learn about it.
