Driver charged with money laundering
A traffic stop in on U.S. Hwy 281 South led deputies to find $40,000 hidden in black duct-tape packages Friday.

A Facebook post from the Sheriff Daniel Bueno's office states the money was found after the driver consented to a vehicle search. The post states K9s were called and detected narcotics, and nine packages were found containing the money.

The driver was arrested and charged with money laundering.

Padre Island National Seashore's Malaquite Beach and Bird Island day use area is open.m Both were being repaired after Hurricane Hanna affected the area.

The boat ramp also is open, along with the north and south beaches. "Primitive" camping also is available, and developed campgrounds will reopen Friday. Overnight fees for Malaquite are $14, and $8 for Bird Island.
