Meet some celebrities at Corpus Christi Comic Con this weekend

Following the success of their 2018 show, the organizers of Corpus Christi Comic Con have moved the 2019 show to the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi.

Featured attractions include Adult and Kids Cosplay contests, live celebrity Q&A panels, “how-to” and workshop-type panels, over 100 vendors featuring fun and nerdy merchandise.

Throughout the two-day event, there will also be opportunities to meet featured artists and celebrities from comics, movies, and television.

“We are proud that we have built a fun, family-friendly event for our community, and we hope that everyone will come out and experience it. It’s what we set out to do when the show was founded back in 2017 – create a welcoming environment for fans of all ages and genres,” said owners Ryan Romel, Jon Garcia and Daniel Benavides. “We are constantly striving to grow and improve so we can provide the best quality event to Corpus Christi, and we are looking forward to another great year!”

With more than 7,000 attendees each in 2017 and 2018, this year’s event promises to be even bigger.

Announced celebrity guests include Dean Cain, Michael Dorn, Maile Flanagan, Gates McFadden, Janet Varney, Dante Basco, Barry Williams, Oscar Nunez, Leslie Baker, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Walter Jones, Karen Ashley, and plenty more.

Adopt a furry best friend at the ice cream social and fundraising event

Summer is more fun with mans best friend. That is why the Gulf Coast Humane Society is teaming up with Double Dipt Homemade Ice Cream & Fudge Shop to eat some ice cream, raise some money, and find some homes for our furry friends.

The event will be held atDouble Dipt from 12 pm to 4 pm this Saturday, June 29th.

The event page promises game tables, music, water activities, and plenty of pets to adopt.

Also, 30% of the day’s proceeds will go directly to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

I scream. You scream. We all scream for pet adoption ice cream socials.

 

 

Vaccinate your pet for as little as $5 this weekend

Making sure your pet has the right vaccinations is important to being a good pet owner. Take care of all your dogs and cats at the monthly Free/Low-Cost Clinic happening at the Keach Family Library.

Starting at 9 am, the clinic will take the first 150 pets until 11 am when they shut it down.

Here is a breakdown of the prices:

DHPP Booster – $5
De-Worming – $5
Rabies – $5
Microchip – $15

Heartworm test will be free when you purchase 6 months of heartworm prevention. $15-25 depending on weight.

You can also get your dog or cat spayed or neutered. $40 for dogs under 50lbs. $75 for dogs over 51lbs. $40 for cats.

Get it done while it is affordable.

 

 

Oso Bay Wetlands hosts Sensory-Sensitive Saturday

The Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center wants sensory sensitive children to enjoy the beauty and power of naturethis Saturday.

Crafts, animal meet and greets, and outdoor explorations are just a few of the things that the whole family can enjoy.

The event lasts from 10:30 am to noon, Saturday, June 29.

Local Fortnite, Smash Bros, and Madden tournaments this Saturday

The first Gaming Championship Tournament Series in the Coastal Bend will be conducted by Waves Resort Corpus Christi featuring Schlitterbahn Waterpark this weekend.

“Fortnite Elimination” will kick off the series at 1 p.m. Saturday at the newly added Waves Video Gaming Lounge & Esports Training Facility.

And if Super Smash Brothers is more your speed, compete in the Double Elimination Summer Gaming Championship in Super Smash Brothers on July 27. Smash your way to the top with the best-of-three matches. The finals will include a best-of-five match.

If you aspire to be the Madden Coastal Bend Champion, compete in a Madden 20 tournament on Aug. 24. Make your way to the top in a double-elimination style tournament while enjoying gamer-themed food and drink specials.

The entry fee for each of these tournaments is $25.

Prizes include cash prize pool, Schlitterbahn® Waterpark Day Passes, “Splash Cash,” Wave’s Swag and other gaming enthused prizes.

The events will be live on Twitch for full stream and commentating during Waves Summer Gaming Championship.

Come visit City Hall at La Palmera Mall

 

The one-stop shop bringing city government to the people is back.

City Hall in the Mall returns Saturday, June 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at La Palmera Mall, 5488 S. Padre Island Drive.

The event offers a unique opportunity for residents to learn about different city services and meet the people working behind-the-scenes at City Hall.

Register your child for summer camp, grab a library card, or adopt a pet at one of the more than 50 booths around the mall. The Contracts and Procurement Department will also be signing up vendors interested in doing business with the city.

The first 100 people attending will get a free goodie bag, and those visiting booths have an opportunity to win prizes.

Chicken and Sausage BBQ benefiting the Corpus Christi Seaman’s Center

The Corpus Christi Seaman’s Center is holding a chicken and sausage BBQ fundraiser this Saturday, June 29.

The award-winning Corpus Christi Downtown Lions Club will be providing chicken quarters, H-E-B sausage, savory spanish rice, borracho beans, and assorted desserts. Plates will be $10 and $1 for assorted deserts.

They will also deliver ten plates or more within 10 miles of the Corpus Christi International Seaman Center at 1501 Mesquite Street at Fitzgerald. Don’t forget about the cash bar!
