The city’s new Parks and Recreation director is getting ready for a busy summer.
Jermel Stevenson has been on the job since April and he’s already got a major task.
Corpus Christi is one of just 160 cities in the country with a federally accredited park system.
The system is up for re-accreditation in a few years and Stevenson wants to make sure everything is up to date.
“We have a bit of outdated plan that we have right now,” Stevenson said. “The last one that we had was in 2012, so it is naturally time for that to happen again. By having an updated (plan) that helps us with accreditation.”
And having an accredited park system makes it easier to receive state funding.
