Pet owners with dogs that attack other animals will now face stricter consequences.
The Corpus Christi City Council approved the new ‘Vicious’ Dogs ordinance today.
However, Corpus Christi Animal Care Services staff say they often get calls from pet owners who say dogs have viciously attacked their cat, dog or other furry friends. Typically, dog owners would pay a fine if a dog attacked another animal.
Under the new city rule, dog owners will now appear in court so that a judge can determine if the dog should be designated as ‘vicious’. If so, then the dog owner has 10 days to find the dog a new home outside of the city limits or surrender it to Animal Care Services.
The new ordinance will go into effect on Monday.
