The crash happened along the 1800 block of IH-37 on the northbound lanes sometime around 1 a.m. Monday.
Investigators say a 25-year-old male driver was traveling northbound on I-37 at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve.
Police added there was a 21-year-old female passenger in the car. She was not injured.
Because of the crash, police had to shut down all northbound lanes from Port Avenue to downtown.
