Police identify suspected DWI driver that caused power outage

A suspected DWI driver, who crashed into a power pole knocking out power to hundreds Saturday night, has been identified.

The crash happened just after  6:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Caranchua and Coleman Avenue.

Suspected drunk driver crash causes power outage

According to Lieutenant Jay Clement, with the Corpus Christi police department, Angelica Cruz, 41, was driving intoxicated when she crashed her Camaro into a power pole.

As a result of the crash, live electricity wires came down. A transformer blew up knocking out power.

According to an AEP website, more than 850 customers lost power.

Angelica Cruz was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Nueces County Jail officials said her bond amount was set at $3,500.
