Family, friends hold fundraiser for eight-year-old Aransas Co. boy

A community rallied around an Rockport family who continues to mourn the loss of their 8-year-old son.

Relatives of Martin Ray Campbell, Jr., also known “Chucky” say he died from complication from the flu virus.

Friends, family remember Aransas Co. boy who passed away Monday

Family members say Chucky was first taken to an emergency room last Sunday where he was diagnosed. Later that day, he went to another ER facility, where doctors found fluid in his lungs.

Chucky died early Monday.

Saturday, his family held a barbecue plate fundraiser at the Rock Bottom Pub and Park in Rockport.

His mother says she was overwhelmed by the amount of support.

Jasmine Solis, Chucky’s mother, told KRIS 6 News, “It means a lot, it really does, the community came together, and it’s just overwhelming and the amount of support that we have had.”

Chucky’s 9th birthday would have been Sunday.

The family said they will lay him to rest on Tuesday.
