A little over a year after Hurricane Harvey devasted the Aransas County Independent School District, Mitchell Anderson, a senior from Rockport-Fulton High School, received a massive four-year scholarship from the University of Texas (UT).

Hurricane Harvey presented considerable challenges for Anderson and his family, but he remained focused and true to his goals. Anderson maintains an impressive set of talents and accomplishments. He is ranked in the top 3% of his senior class and in the 94th percentile of SAT placement. He also manages to find time to be a decorated trumpet player who has competed and placed in UIL competitions and loves to play in the community at the local history center and a local church.

The merit/needs-based scholarship was valued at $48,000 for 4 years and was presented at reception by the Executive Director of Admissions at UT Austin, Dr. Miguel V. Wasielewski.
