Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety say two children were killed and two were transported in critical condition after a train struck a car.

The crash happened around 10:35 a.m. Saturday on County Road 1136, just south of Mathis, Texas.

Sgt. Nathan Brandley says a car disregarded a train crossing sign moments before the crash. The car was hit by the train.

A report issued out from DPS Troopers state, ” The driver of the Mitsubishi failed to stop for the Union Pacific train at the railroad crossing and was struck in the right passenger side of the car in the middle of the crossing.  The Mitsubishi then went off the tracks and struck a cable barrier.”

Sgt. Brandley says when first responders arrived on the scene, a 12-year-old boy along with an eight-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene.

Saturday afternoon, investigators stated, “Aiden Posada, 12 years of age, male, a resident of Beeville, Texas-passenger, and Jacoby Posada, 8 years of age, male, a resident of Beeville were both pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.”

A five-year-old girl and the driver of the car were left in critical condition.

The male driver of the car was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital. The five-year-old girl was HALO-flighted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Brandley says none of the children were restrained in the vehicle while the five-year-old girl was not in a child car seat.

Sunday afternoon, the father of Aiden and Jacoby Posada says a woman created a GOFUNDME account for raising money for the children’s funeral costs. However, the father says he along with his family do not know of this woman.
