An Alice woman died after being hit by a van late Thursday night, according to a statement by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Amanda Garcia, 27, was walking on BU 281 just north of Alice when she was hit by a van just after 11 p.m. The statement says the driver of the van did not see the woman due to her wearing dark clothing.
Alice Echo News reports the van belongs to the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office.
The area is also dark and not well-lighted, the statement says.
Garcia was taken to Christus Spohn – Alice where she was pronounced dead.
DPS troopers are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
