The CEO for the Port of Corpus Christi says 2018 was a big year for the port, and 2019 promises to be even better.

Speaking at a luncheon for the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi today, port CEO Sean Strawbridge said 2018 had a strong finish with record tonnage, record revenue and more customers.

Strawbridge says the big event for 2019 will be the widening and deepening of the ship channel.

“We’re certainly going to be heads-down focused on the improvement of the Corpus Christi ship channel,” Strawbridge said. “You will see more dredgers in the water this year, and we’re excited because that ultimately will be the linchpin for our success going forward.”

The Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded the first contract for the ship channel improvement project. Strawbridge says the project is expected to take three to four years.
