A possible case of arson had Corpus Christi firefighters up early this morning.

Crews with the CCFD received a call about a fire on the 1200 block of Sabinas just after 5:15 a.m. When they arrived on scene, one car was engulfed and another car was beginning to catch fire. Firefighters had the flames out within 6 minutes, according to officials on scene.

Officials believe the car was set on fire intentionally because they appear to have been parked at the location for a long period of time.

“The vehicles are broken down vehicles, it’s not like they were in operation so someone intentionally set it, it started in the passenger compartment”  CCFD Battalion One Chief McGill said.

Crews checked out the surrounding buildings, which appear to be vacant, to be sure the fire did not spread.

No one was injured in the incident. Arson investigators are expected to comb over the scene for evidence.
