Suspect remains jailed under $1 million in bonds in connection with Homecrest shooting

A 32-year-old woman is in jail under bonds totaling $1 million after she was arrested over the weekend by Corpus Christi police.

Thelma Villarreal was arrested after police convinced her to come out of her house on Sebastian.

While authorities say there was a disturbance that led up to the shooting, the incident is still being investigated.

The incident happened just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Homecrest on the city’s south side.

When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. The victim, who was identified by family members, was 21-year-old Alexandra Winfree. She later died at a hospital.

Officers were able to track down a suspect in that shooting, a 32-year-old female, to a home in the 7200 block of Sebastian Court.

SWAT teams were called due to the scene being considered active an dangerous.

Police have not given a motive for the shooting.
