A robbery near a local watch and clock repair shop turned into a shootout, sending two people to the hospital today.

According to Corpus Christi police, officers responded to a call at the shop on the corner of Bonner Drive and Staples Street at about 1:42 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a man in his late 60s who had been shot twice when two Hispanic males entered the store and attempted to rob him, said CCPD Lt. Michael Pena.

The man was able to shoot one of the suspects before they left the store. The victim then called 911.

Pena says the suspects left the scene in a silver Chevrolet Equinox.

The shooting victim is currently hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said.

The suspect who was shot is in custody in the hospital in unknown condition. The other suspect remains at large, Pena said.

Both men face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the incident remains under investigation.

This is a developing story, and more information will be reported as it becomes available.
