The Mission-Aransas Research Reserve Education Program at the UT Marine Science Institute is seeking out a new captain for their R/V Katy research vessel.

It’s considered a floating classroom, a way to take students out in our ecosystem and teach them about the importance of our bays and estuaries.

The current R/V Katy has a captain, Stanley Dignum. But by the end of the year, Dignum plans on retiring. He says it’s been one of the best experiences and hopes to see the program continue.

Minimum requirements will be a U.S. Coast Guard 110 license and at least 5 years as a vessel operator.
