Five Coastal Bend communities got an early Christmas gift today courtesy of Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb’s Hurricane Harvey relief fund.
Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Port Aransas, Rockport and Portland each got a check for $19,000, as well as a matched donation from the Dell Foundation.
“We’re all in this together, we’re neighbors, we’re friends, we live in the same area,” McComb said. “We want to help our neighbors, and it’s just the right thing to do.”
The donations will be used to help chambers of commerce in each city rebuild and help businesses in their communities.
All of the money donated today came from private donations. Since the fund began, it has collected more than $1 million.
