Two people are on the loose after they stole a vehicle, led police on a chase and rammed a police car, prompting officers to fire their weapons on the suspects, according to officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

A heavy police presence was present at the 2800 block of Sacky Drive, where the chase ended and shots were fired, police said.

It all began when officers were called to the 5200 block of Ayers Street for a burglary call. When officers arrived, two people left the scene in what officers said was a stolen vehicle and led police on a chase.

That chase ended on the 2800 block of Sacky Drive where officers say the driver rammed a police vehicle with the stolen car, prompting officers to shoot at the suspects.

The suspects escaped on foot and are still at large, according to officers on the scene. No current threat to the public was present after the escape.

The search has been ongoing the in area since about 4:30 a.m. Areas near Richter and Milo Streets were shut down during this time.

Police and crime scene units can be seen in the neighborhood and crime scene tape has been installed.
