DPS warning drivers to be ready for winter road conditions

With reports of sleet and ice coming in from throughout the area, the Texas Department of Public Safety is advising drivers to be extra careful as winter weather makes its way through the Coastal Bend.

DPS and the Texas Department of Transportation are closely monitoring are roads, bridges and overpasses for possible ice.

As many are preparing to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, DPS is telling drivers to be prepared for potentially hazardous driving conditions, Those headed north are advised to allow for extra travel time and to be prepared in the event of an emergency.

“Make sure you put some extra water and food in the car to take with you in case your car breaks down on the side of the road,” said DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley. “Think before you leave.”

So far, no weather related accidents have been reported in the Coastal Bend.
