A ceremony was held in honor of those who answered America’s high calling and served our country.

Over fifty veterans, military and those who support our veterans attended a ceremony at Veterans Memorial High School to proclaim Veterans Memorial High School as a “Purple Heart High School.”

The purpose is to honor those who serve in the military, veterans, those who have served in combat, and their families.

The principal at Veterans High School, Kimberly James, says it’s an honor to have the school named in memory of the brave sacrifices vets have made.

“It’s very important for us as a namesake of Veterans Memorial High School to give back to our community. We are providing a service in creating that culture that will continue on,” James said.

At the end of the ceremony, veterans revealed three parking spaces for purple heart recipients. Educators say its one of the many ways Veterans High School is honoring our veterans.
