A local man running in the Corpus Christi City Council District 3 race has passed away.
City Councilwoman Lucy Rubio told KRIS 6 News that Roland Gaona, 57, died from kidney failure. Several reports indicate that the local realtor passed away early Tuesday.
Corpus Christi City Secretary Rebecca Huerta said that according to state law, the deadline to remove a candidate’s name from a ballot is the third day before the Aug. 20 filing deadline.
If Gaona wins the most votes in the District 3 Race, the city council would have to appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
That would mean the council would have to accept applications from the public for that position.
