The Corpus Christi Athletic Department is continuing their renovation plans thanks to a previously approved bond in 2016.

Now the district takes aim at Cabaniss Athletic Complex where they will begin expansive reconstruction plan that includes improving pressboxes and bleachers, building a new parking lot behind the football stadium and much more.

The plan also involves turf fields being built for some of their other schools, this allows a greater opportunity for teams to practice.

“Everybody is able to practice no matter how much it rains,” CCISD Athletic Director Brenda Marshall said.

The amount of money from the bond going towards athletics is around 20-25 million, Marshall told KRIS 6. She believes that these updated athletic facilities will allow the district to keep up with the competition.

“You’ve got to stay up with what the people next door are doing and you’ve got to stay up with the other multi-school districts,” Marshall said.

The entire renovation is expected to be done by next football season.
