City says wastewater to blame for Lou Street sink hole

The city is working to repair a sinkhole that appeared on the city’s west side yesterday.

The hole, on Lou Street, near Cortez Street doesn’t look very wide, but it’s about eight feet deep.

For one local resident, the hole couldn’t be in a worse spot, right in front of her driveway.

The pavement just disappeared. It fell in,” said resident Leah Mackey. “I don’t know where all the dirt went that was holding it up.”

A city spokesperson says the hole is caused by recent rains and a problem with a wastewater line. They won’t know for sure until work crews can get in and start digging.
