A gathering at Del Mar College today will take aim at ways to stop human trafficking in Texas.

Lawmakers, members of law enforcement and educators will take part in a day-long summit to discuss the facts and dangers of human trafficking.

Attorney General Ken Paxton will be the keynote speaker. He said the first step in fighting human trafficking is to make more Texans aware of how widespread the issue is.

“I think so few people really know a lot about human trafficking,” Paxton said. “I think the first thing, is what we’re tying to do is educate people. I have people in my office, lawyers and investigators, they’ll go speak anywhere in the state to help people learn about it, because we can leverage our time if more people are aware of it.”

The summit is being hosted by State Representative Todd Hunter and Del Mar College. It begins at 8 a.m and will run until 3 p.m.
