A patriotic display along the city’s bayfront has been removed due to weather concerns.

Approximately 600 flags were out on display near Ropes Park for a week-long event known as Flags for Heroes.

The flags went up last week, and were scheduled to be up through Sunday, but organizers felt that potential severe weather this weekend made it necessary to bring the flags down. The flags were removed on Wednesday morning.

“We are saddened to report we made the difficult decision to remove the flags this morning due to the weather worsening,” said Lysa Chapman, Rotary Club of Corpus Christi executive director. “We are doing everything we can to protect the flags.”

Chapman says the Rotary Club has heard many amazing stories about how meaningful the flags have been to people. The club has learned a great deal about how to improve the program next year.
