In the alleyway of Hewit Drive, residents could see and smell the overflow of sewage due to our recent rain event. Corpus Christi water department officials say this incident was caused by an issue with a plug inside one of the pipelines.
The water department says that issue has been fixed. Unfortunately, that fix is just one solution to the overflow problem. The city says excessive rain can cause breaks in our pipes leading to other overflow issues.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is now investigating this recent sewage issue.
Members with the EPA are keeping a close eye on this same investigation too.
The water department says there is a solution coming to solve this problem, though it will take some time.
