Adelia Resendez calls home a place for memories, laughter, and to see her young ones grow up.
However, a lot of memories were lost when Harvey blew into the Coastal Bend last August.
Resendez’s home in Refugio was left in ruins, so she moved in with her son in Freer while she waited for the FEMA process to take its course.
Just as devastating as the loss of her home, Resendez got word from FEMA that they had denied her claim, leaving her and her family to start the rebuilding process from scratch.
But when all hope appeared to be lost, some unexpected help came by.
Hundreds of volunteers with the Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group, along with several other agencies, rolled up their sleeves to help re-build, asking for nothing in return.
As for Resendez, it is now home sweet home once again.
