CORPUS CHRISTI – The Corpus Christi Police Department received a generous donation from Valero, that will give police officers another set of eyes in the sky.

The Valero Energy Corporation donated $100,000 so the department could purchase a second Skywatch tower Tuesday evening.

You might have seen the first one around popular businesses during the holidays and in parking lots that have many parked vehicles.

Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Markle says the first Skywatch tower really reduced crime during the holidays.

“It really suppresses crime and it allows us to put eyes out on the scene and it gives us a great vantage point and its something that other cities have been utilizing for awhile,” Markle said.

The Skywatch tower has been used at busy events such as Beach to Bay, Fiesta de la Flor and Buc Days.
