CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An 11-year-old girl was hit by a school bus crossing Texan Trail in front of Ray High School today.

CCPD Lt. Timothy Frazier said the girl had been walking on the sidewalk when she bolted out into the street in front of the bus shortly after 4 p.m. The bus was unable to stop, hitting the child.

She sustained head wounds and was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, but is expected to fully recover.

“At first we thought she was in critical condition,” Frazier said, “but after talking to the doctors over at Driscoll, she’s gonna have some recovery time, but she’s gonna be OK.”

Students were on the school bus when the accident happened. Frazier said the kids were shaken by the incident, but no injuries were reported.

The Ray High School nurse was on-scene to provide care.

“A lot of the kids on the bus were kinda in shock,” he said. “Obviously they’ve never seen anything like this.”

The bus riders were transferred to another bus and taken home.
