For the second year in a row, local non-profit Fish For Life is donating money to take kids Back-to-School shopping.

KRIS 6 News tagged along with little ones from Pre-K to 2nd grade from West Oso Elementary as they shopped at J.C. Penney.

The little ones received a $100 gift card from Fish for Life and with the J.C. Penney coupons and sales available, they were able to stretch that money to about $150.

The kids, who were paired up with a shopping buddy, chose head-to-toe outfits.

The most popular item?

Those light up in the dark shoes like the ones Tavianna Lindsey was more than happy to show us.

“I got a purse, clothes and I got these shoes,” Lindsey said.

Micah Elizondo, who is 6 years old and going into 1st grade, shopped with his principal, Marci Davis. They both were excited to show us what was in their bag including shorts and t-shirts.

“They’re so greatful,” Davis says. “You call them and people just weep. They tell you they were wondering how they were going to buy clothes and are thankful. Sometimes they have 3-4 kids, so even if we can just bless one child, then they have money to help the rest.”

The kids are chosen based on the income their parents make, typically families that can use the help.

Braselton Homes donaed $5,000 to make today’s event possible, and Valero is helping to sponsor tomorrow’s shopping spree with 3rd-5th graders.

J.C. Penney is also helping out tremendously, including giving 48 free hair cuts to parents.

The Islander Cheerleaders were there, along with Izzy the mascot. Sammy The Seagull with the Hooks also was there along with with the Ice Rays mascot.
