NICE, France — Eight people are missing in France after a storm brought heavy rain and flooding to border regions near Italy.

Record rainfall buried cars in mud, swept away roads, and damaged homes.

The storm ravaged several villages around the city of Nice on the French Riviera.

Nearly 20 inches of rain was registered over a 24-hour period in one community north of Nice.

The storm moved across southeastern France and then northern Italy,

It caused major flooding on both sides of the border.
