CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — AEP Texas is reminding customers about a new round of scams.
People who claim to work for the company are calling residents and businesses threatening to disconnect their electric service unless an immediate payment is made.
Here's what to do if it happens to you:
First, call your retail electric provider to verify your account balance and the date your payment is due.
Also, double check the phone number that's on your bill.
A wrong number could connect you with a scammer.
Keep in mind that that AEP will not contact you if your bill is past due or warn that your service will be disconnected.
That's a job for your retail electric provider.
If you ever feel like someone is trying to cheat you, just hang up and call police. Then contact AEP Texas.
