CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi is preparing for the 17th annual Casa de Amor fundraiser on Sept. 5.
Today, the charity announced its featured speaker of the event will be Houston Astros Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell, who announced his upcoming involvement in the fundraising event through a phone call.
The fundraiser will help support housing and resources for families who must travel for their child's healthcare needs.
“Casa de Amor is a key way for us to share our mission with the community...and maybe by even bringing in a celebrity speaker also exposes new donors to come in who might just come for the speaker but they'll learn more about Ronald McDonald House,” said Michelle Horine, CEO of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi.
The Ronald McDonald Charities of Corpus Christi has 25 rooms and can host up to 60 individuals per night.
They’re often at capacity, so donations from the Casa de Amor event will help with everyday expenses.
